While the trombone can be quite deadly — especially where three or more are gathered — as a solo instrument it can also be quite friendly — and even made to purr on occasion ...
In the hands of a master musician like Amy Bowers, this instrument rivals all others for expressiveness, dynamic range, emotional depth — and just plain coolness.
I have composed a Trombone Sonata for Amy — to be performed sometime in 2018. It is a three-movement work, and its moods shift from boisterous, to tender — to downright comical in the Finale.
The three movements are entitled:
1. Nursery Rhyme
3. Clown Car
